We all know how overwhelmed we can feel when we have too many thoughts bouncing around in our heads. Your grocery list, work to-do’s, people to call back, birthday gifts to buy…the list goes on and on. When all these thoughts start to pile up it’s hard to feel positive about yourself and your life and your brain may turn to irrational or negative thinking. While it is easy to slip into this kind of thinking, it’s important to recognize when this is happening and turn your thoughts into what they should be; encouraging, loving, and positive towards yourself and your life.
One of the best ways to keep your thoughts flowing in the right direction is to stick with daily meditations. When you meditate, you are purging your mind of all the stresses and negativity of everyday life; you are controlling your thoughts rather than letting them control you. By practicing mind purging, through meditation, you are ridding yourself of the thoughts that can cause a stressful life.
Meditation has been proven to reduce stress levels, foster creativity and help channel inner guidance for simpler decision making. A great method of meditation simply involves sitting in an upright position with your eyes closed. It’s important to choose a place with absolutely no distractions. Focus on your breathing and clear your mind of everything but that. This will be the hardest part and it’s important to be patient.
Purging your mind through meditation will take practice as it is difficult for all of us to completely turn off our brains. But, once we achieve it, purging our minds can get rid of the negativity that bogs us down throughout the day and allow us to focus on only loving and positive thoughts towards ourselves and our lives.
Another great way to calm yourself after a particularly stressful time is through prayer. Surrendering yourself and your thoughts to a higher spirit can be freeing and rewarding. Whereas mediation should be done somewhere quiet and distraction free, you can say simple prayers anytime, anywhere. Use statements such as:
- I surrender this to you
- Guide me in what you would have me do, say, and think
- Please send healing to ____________
- Show me the way to ______________
- Send me strength to ______________
- I want to accept ____ and let go of ___
By trusting your higher power with your needs and worries, you are giving yourself the opportunity to let go, to focus on yourself, and to eliminate negative thoughts.
So, next time you feel like your brain is a jumbled mess of stress, simply let go, meditate, purge yourself of negative thoughts and allow yourself to feel nothing but love.
